I've read a heap about the church of Bane but I can't get a handle on where it stands right now. The questions I have -:
1. Who is currently the High Imperceptor of Bane? (Is it Fzoul?)
2. If the High Imperceptor isnt Fzoul, is Fzoul supposed to take orders from them?
3. Why would the High Imperceptor be in Mulmaster when Zhentil Keep is the seat of Bane's faith?
From what I can gather.. the High Imperceptor no longer holds supremacy over the Church of Bane as Fzoul is Bane's infallible mortal representative.. so therefore the High Imperceptor (if this orthodox banite title still exists) would be getting their orders from Fzoul (after Bane himself).
I'm slightly confused.. it would be nice to clear this up. _________________ On indefinite real life hiatus |

While I am not yet certain if we inspect it with the information that we have it could be that the Banites of the Zhentarim are trying not to concenrate all their power in one place due to Cyricite individuals. Perhaps lessons of the past have made them think twice before bringing High Imperceptor of Bane to a place he might have less protection in?
We can also look at it from a different angle. What if the High Imperceptor of Bane was sent to Mulmaster in order to lure any Cyric assassins by presenting himself as a target.
Another point of view - Spreading the faith and maintaining it on a larger scale.
Just my point of view at least but indeed it requires more reading.

A few things are clear. Yet others are clouded for me too.
The high imperceptor was the highest ranking priest of Bane, until the Cyrinishad (or whatever it was called) in Mulmaster. It drove all Banites underground, or they were simply slaughtered. The High Imperceptor went underground, but what has come from him since the return of Bane is uncertain. The Cyricist temple is still standing in Mulmaster, along with a new temple of Bane. No details as of yet that I have found give up the location of the High Imperceptor.
One thing is certain, Fzoul answers to none except to Bane. And Bane sees Fzoul as his number one.
Good questions though, maybe worth posting in the Candlekeep. _________________ ~Blackwill

Im far from an expert, but with Bane's reclemation of the Zhent network extending as far south as Sembia and no doubt across the rest of the Toril, I would assume things would be well in hand in the Moonsea. At least on the surface.
As far as Mulmaster's choice as a seat of power, it makes sense until Zhentil Keep is completely rebuilt as a fair portion of it is still in ruin if Im not mistaken. Also, years of conflict between the two cities would have left in place a strong Banite element that would have been quick to surface with the return of Bane. |

1. There is no current High Imperceptor, Mulmaster was actually the original seat of bane's power (ZK was just early in Bane worship tis all). When Fzoul broke away and the Cyrinshad debacle Fzoul managed to become High Tyrannar of Xvim and his chosen. He eventually caught the High Imperceptor hiding in Mulmaster and had him tortured to death, he then used the High Imperceptor's hand to help forge an artifact called 'Scepter of the Tyrant's Eye'. Fzoul is now Chosen of Bane and his High priest (highest of the high )
2. Fzoul takes orders from Bane period .
3. answered in part 1 heh Imperceptors tend to be temple leaders, there isn't a High Imperceptor per say but Fzoul fulfills this role. _________________ Power for the Keep, Power for the Zhentarim!

Thanks for the info Bane. I'm curious where this info on the High Imperceptor can be found. Mainly the part of where Fzoul tortures him and kills him. _________________ ~Blackwill

I remember something about Manshoon being defeated by Fzoul, this atrifact of his, and Lord Orgauth.
Can't find any novels about him taking out the Imperceptor ( the Realms of Infamy Anthology?), maybe in an accesory perhaps? |

Yeah Mansoon was defeated by Fzoul and Orgauth together, making Fzoul the supreme leader of the Zhentarim. AFAIK in making his artifact "Scepter of the Tyrant's Eye", he did this in Mintar with the help of a Banite general called Keldorn Darkhope (an uncle of Scyllua through marriage). _________________ ~Blackwill

The info is in Cloak and Dagger and basically it details Fzoul's Xvim days. Fzoul got help from the ruler of Mintar a priest called Teldorn Darkhope, he would count as a distant cousin of Scyllua and took the city by force when him and a contingent of the Order of the Black Gauntlet slew the old ruler. _________________ Power for the Keep, Power for the Zhentarim!

Except for the spelling mistake, that's exactly what I said.
But that still doesn't help explain what source accounts for the death of the High Imperceptor. _________________ ~Blackwill

Okay sorry was just trying to help.
Well for sure I know that Fzoul tortured the High Imperceptor and used his cut off hand in the ritual, I think it's left open to DM's to have the guy still alive or not but personally I think he would be dead, why? Wel he's a threat and they never gave any information on the High Imperceptor suggesting that this guy was not really worth discussing, he's merely a remnant of the old faith. _________________ Power for the Keep, Power for the Zhentarim!
