How player driven would you like your ideal PW to be?
Would you like players to have minor responsibilities such as a marshal, a local church priest, a zhent lieutenant etc.
Or complete responsibilities such as a commander, a high priest, a thieves guild leader, etc.

A mixture. At first the positions would be NPC filled, but as time progress and players move up in ranks, the higher positions would free up. Though a thing like mayor would be only NPC driven but a counsil of players could perhaps affect the mayors decisions. Positions like Commander, High Priest and Guild Leaders would be player positions after a while when a firm playerbase has been established. _________________ "I make sense." - THR

I think it would depend on the play-time and role-play of the player. A High-Marshall who is only around 4hours a week may complicate things unless their absences are role-played as well (eg. The Lord High-Marshall is on campaign stamping out Red Plume detractors for the next ten day or so) _________________ On indefinite real life hiatus |

In someones absence there may be substitutes. The Deputy Marshall takes over when the High Marshall is out. _________________ "I make sense." - THR

Good idea is to always have a dm in charge, so at first it could be a local recruiter for the Zhentarim. Later on a player may have managed to take over say Phlan with a cleric, the dm could guide the player as a deity or the rest of the council. This way if a player quits or isn't able to fulfill his role a dm can be there to take control of the situation, either temporarily or permanently. _________________ Power for the Keep, Power for the Zhentarim!

Aye I prefer PC's to have the Opportunity to take some levels of control....actually the opportunity to climb any ladder...
However it needs to be DM driven and NEEDS to have fall backs...In the case of lower appointance a higher ranking dm controlled NPC and in case of Higher ranking PC's a lower ranking "second" that is DM controlled. The PC also needs to have the understanding that as a DM you may direct him/her via their deity and if they do not follow said direction the deity will most likely take notice _________________

Though I must say, we shouldn't expect more from a DM than a player. The DMs play this game just as players do and sometimes they can't be there. What happens in this case? If both the appointed player and DM second is away? In this case the highest PC of that ladder would step in, correct? _________________ "I make sense." - THR

If in fact there is a another ranking PC that PC would have to RP properly what level of input they actually have upon their respective faction etc., so in some cases PC's may have to wait for said DM/PC to be available for RP...There is no way around that. _________________

Well... I'd say it's all up to the PC to RP what sort of input they'd have on their respective faction. A PC could always be under the illusion that he has more or less power than he actually has. In some cases, the next person on the ladder would act more or less like a messenger, giving word to the person above him. _________________ "I make sense." - THR

I know that our group would like to take on as much as we could. We have a lot of ideas in mind and would love to further them along with a DM or even to the point that a DM could build npcs in our establishments to offer "player group" quests etc. Hard to explain here without saying more than I want too |

I dont see much problems with play time, just long player absence. As a DM in PnP games I don't typically allow players easy access to high level control NPC's anyway. For example - a high priest is VERY difficult to get an audience with... it might take several weeks to set up, even for a high level PC. So if a player were to dedicate himself through good play to achieve such a position, it would not be unusual that their character would be unaccessible for reasonable periods of time. I would think that any PC that made the commitment to achieve that position would also be highly interactive with the DM and the player base that periodic "appearances" and "audiences" could be arranged.
Of course, this comes with the issue that in a dynamic world if the PC in a high level position were absent (unexplained) for long periods of time, they might find themselves replaced (lost and thought dead) by an NPC or other PC's that aspire to the position. Such is the way of multiplayer games. _________________ "The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."

The Church of Tiamat (Pentagon) group sent in some info to Thangorn. I would love it if he would share it with the rest of your team. Even though we are worshippers of Tiamat we still would love to find our niche on your server. (even though we hate Bane and kill his followers )
I gave thang a list of some ideas we had and as I said I hope he passes them on to the rest of the team. We look forward to more updates and working with the DM team to have fun by all involved. |

I would like to take this opportunity to point out to the Tiamat worshippers that they wouldn't openly oppose the Banites simply because it's not a smart move. They would most likely be silent enemies and work through intermediatries to cause trouble for them yet they might still work with Zhents/Zhentarim for their own purposes without showing who they are.
I'm no telling you how to rp but I'm just explaining what I have seen and think, since the majority of Tiamat/Bane conflicts is really in Unther and is more of a rivalry. _________________ Power for the Keep, Power for the Zhentarim!

Dan, Thangorn discussed and shared your ideas with the Moonsea team. Our direction is clear though, you guys can find a home on our server, but we will not cater for your specific wishes, meaning that we will not host areas that take up more valuable server space.
We'll be building in Hubs, and adding these when we need them, and only for a temporary basis. So your PCs would be forced to find their niche in one of our core areas. The only core area is Zhentil Keep and environs at the time being.
I hope this helps. _________________ ~Blackwill
