I think Zhentil Keep has far too many eyepatch wearers.. maybe there is some sort of black market in eyes? maybe there is no such thing as beholders, they are merely papier-mache constructs adorned with the missing black market eyes of Zhents..

Its all due to the great Moonsea Scissor Run of 1368 DR. Despite the dire warnings of mothers and grandparents, thousands of citizens participated in the marathon. Sadly, disaster struck when Garan the Trickster set up trip wires along various areas of the race route.
Many innocent eyeballs were lost that day. *shakes his head sadly*

FYI, Podel and Tash do not have eye patches....I think you're thinking of Chandra and Evan Oneye in Phlan.
