Hey all. This is my first appearance on an ALFA forum. Been playing NWN since 2002 but never ran into you guys till I started kicking around the PW forums in N2.

First - I'm not a member of the ALFA community (finally put in my application today), but I've heard great things about the scene.

Whether or not I am invited to join, I just wanted to say I think this Moonsea project sounds really great. I had been kicking around organizing a PW team around Thay for many of the same reasons I see you discussing here on this forum. I think evil (especially LE) background campaigns are the ultimate challenge. From the creation, to the DM'ing, to the playing -- doing justice to a dark realm is hard without it turning into a bunch of cackling evil idiots. For the person who wants to put on the evil character hat, a dark realm gives them a chance to act out in public. At the same time, I think one of the most interesting sides is having good characters trying to make their way in evil lands. I mean, what kind of challenge is it being a LG paladin in Neverwinter compared to Eltabbar or Zhentil Keep? Its great to think of player opportunites where the good characters are the ones hiding in shadows to work toward their goals.

If I'm invited to the ALFA group, I'll drop you guys a line and see if you could use any dev help.

Welcome to ALFA,

Just to point out, we have an Open Application Server (OAS) too. You can login freely, and DMs can run quests with your PC. That way the DM team can review your gameplay and allow you into ALFA even without filling in an application. Best way to team up with a DM, is to PM HEEGZ on the main ALFA boards and try and figure out a date so he or his team can review you.

When your accepted, we'd surely welcome some extra talent. You can always hop in IRC and discuss exactly what you can or want to commit (building, writing, DMing, scripting, a combo of multiple things).

Also, just for your information, "mother" is applying for a Thay server. So if you prefer Thay, there is a good chance that will be created too.

You're absolutely right Daeftan, the challenge is in playing opposites rather than going with the flow, as per your paladin in Neverwinter example.

In our case it is especially poignant since we will be creating one of the most evil cities in all Faerûn. An unenviable task because it is ten times harder for most of us to make the bad choice on purpose than it is to make the good choice out of virtue.

I know that with the team we have, the Moonsea and Zhentil Keep will live up to its vile reputation and will finally provide evil players with a proper haven.
